Awais, lower the weight and use proper form - lie straight and don't attempt to use irradiation techniques. Those are isolation exercises so no need to use strength techniques on them.

Hello

Whenever I work out on a bench (specifically flies, close grip dumbell press, skull crushers) my neck, trap area starts to ache a little and it prevents me from finishing my sets properly. I make sure to pull my shoulders down and back and use it as a base(bend the bar). This is occurring recently (before getting back to working out I took a month off.

thanks

Doug, you have a very solid plan, allowing for some recovery and deloading in week four.

Good stuff!

All solid tips that are right on point with healthy benching - Next time I see a dude put his feet up while benching, I think I'm going to lose it -

Your wave model is a good one and makes sense.

I do similar - I have my clients' program broken up into 4 week blocks, following the pattern:

Week1, hard, Week2, medium, Week, 3, very hard, Week 4, easy - Thought I always keep the poundages as heavy as possible, I'll lower the number of sets on my "easy" and "medium" weeks.

I'm sure you agree that this will allow you to lift heavier poundages without getting hurt, which is easy w/ the bench press.
